FAQ – CAMPING

Desert camping experiences in Liwa can be arranged on request, subject to availability, weather conditions and operational requirements. Please contact us in advance to discuss your preferred date and requirements.

Is there an age limit for camping in the desert?

There is no fixed age limit. We have welcomed guests ranging from infants to seniors. However, suitability depends on the individual guest, weather conditions and the type of camping experience requested.

Is it safe to camp in the desert?

Desert camping can be enjoyed safely when appropriate precautions are taken. Guests should follow the guide’s instructions, wear suitable footwear, use a torch when moving around at night, and children should remain under adult supervision. Weather and desert conditions are always considered when selecting a suitable camping location.

What items should you bring along if we are providing the camping gear?

We recommend bringing comfortable sleeping clothes, a torch or headlamp, personal toiletries, any required medication, a warm layer during the cooler months, and your camera or phone.

What items should you bring along if you are organizing our own camping gear?

Please bring all necessary camping and sleeping equipment, sufficient water, food, lighting and personal supplies. You can also refer to our camping check list for recommended equipment. Make sure all equipment is securely stored or strapped down in your 4×4 before entering the desert.

How cold does it get at night?

During the cooler months, daytime temperatures are generally pleasant, while desert nights can become quite cool. In winter, nighttime temperatures may occasionally fall below 10°C, so we recommend bringing warm clothing, particularly for overnight camping.

How humid does it get in the desert?

Desert conditions are generally dry, although humidity can vary depending on the season and weather. During cooler months, early-morning dew may form and tents or equipment can sometimes be damp by sunrise.

Do we serve alcohol?

Yes. Alcoholic beverages can be arranged on request according to guests’ requirements, or guests may bring their own. Please let us know in advance so that any necessary arrangements can be coordinated appropriately.

How big are the tents you provide?

We provide two different sizes; tents for 2 adults, tents for a family of 4. You may request this in your reservation

What about toilet facilities?

We do not provide portable toilet facilities at the campsite. We therefore recommend that guests use the facilities at the hotel or meeting point before departing for the desert.

Is there a network coverage (mobile) where we camp?

Mobile network coverage is available across much of Liwa, although the signal can be weaker in some remote desert areas. Reception is often better from higher ground.

When are the best nights to spend in Liwa?

It depends on the experience you prefer. For the darkest skies and best star visibility, choose nights with little or no moonlight. If you prefer to experience the desert under natural moonlight, nights around the full moon can be particularly beautiful. We can advise you on moonrise, moonset and moon illumination for your preferred date.

What happens in case of an emergency (medical condition?)

We select camping locations with accessibility and emergency considerations in mind. Our usual camping areas are approximately 45–60 minutes’ drive from Liwa Hospital, depending on the location, route and desert conditions.

Can we bring our dogs along?

Yes, well-behaved dogs are welcome. Owners remain responsible for their pets at all times and should ensure they do not disturb other guests or wildlife.

Do you have additional questions?

If you have any additional questions or special requirements, please mention them in your reservation request and we will be happy to advise you.
